Western Sydney University is a multi-campus educational institution. It is situated in the Greater Western region of Sydney, Australia, and was previously named the University of Western Sydney. In 1989, the merger of the Nepean College of Advanced Education and the Hawkesbury Agricultural College led to the establishment of the current university as a federated network university. 

The Macarthur Institute of Higher Education was also merged into the university in the same year. In 2001, the university was reformed into a single multi-campus institution, and its name was changed from the University of Western Sydney to Western Sydney University in 2015.

Applicants who have been accepted can choose to pursue their studies either at Western University's Campbelltown location in the Greater Western Sydney area or at Charles Sturt University's Orange campus in Central NSW.
