Distinguished as Western Australia's sole fully academically selective public school, Perth Modern has a rich history, having been established in 1911. Notably, it holds the distinction of being the oldest public high school and the oldest co-educational high school in Western Australia (WA).
The academic achievements of Perth Modern School students have consistently been impressive, as evidenced by their exceptional performance in the Western Australian Certificate of Education school rankings. Since 2016, the year 12 cohorts at Perth Modern have consistently attained the highest median ranking compared to other schools across WA. Starting from 2011, year 12 students' results in WA have been reported using the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
