Edith Cowan University (Edith Cowan University) is a Western Australian public institution. It is named after Edith Cowan, the first woman elected to an Australian parliament, and is the only university in Australia named after a woman. It was formed in 1991 from a merging of tertiary institutions with a history extending back to 1902 when the Claremont Teachers College was established, making it the current descendent of Western Australia's first postsecondary institution.
